Hesta Varn

Guildmaster of the Ironwright-Compact and mayor of Thornhollow. An aging dwarf woman with long blonde hair tied in tight braids. She has forgotten more about metallurgy than most people will ever learn. She took Dorian-Oric on as an apprentice at fourteen when he had no family and no parents. Gruff, brilliant, and privately worried about what he has gotten into.

• She does know about the Soul Core. She is the only person who knows Dorian found it in the ruins.
• When Dorian tried to tell her about it, she didn’t want to hear about it. This was the first time she ever refused to hear about his work.
• Her behavior has changed since Dorian came back from the ruins. She used to check on his work. Now she checks his face, making sure he’s sleeping, making sure he’s okay.
• She was never a warm maternal person, but she has always taken care of him.
• She handed Dorian his first solo mission: deliver a missive to Weber-Hollows, along with 70 gold to hire an escort.
