Freewood
Coastal town | Northwest Greno | Verdant-Realm
A wealthy small city in the northwest part of the continent. Mostly inhabited by tieflings, drow, orcs, and other races kicked out of or unwelcome in other places. Despite the rough reputation of its residents, Freewood is safe, lively, and prosperous.
This is “City 2” from the Session 0 map — the unnamed trade hub capital in the top-left area where Tharion starts and Roland arrives.
Description
- Sun-bleached paving stone streets
- White Grecian-style buildings
- Inns, pubs, and market stalls in a lively downtown
- A large cathedral dedicated to Elythrael
- Gates with a guard tower; gate opens via a magic stone (the guard’s lever is just for show)
Economy
Formerly a lumber town (hence the name “Freewood”), now based on hunting and fishing. Wealthy for its size.
Demographics
Primarily tieflings, drow, and orcs. Humans are uncommon enough that Roland’s arrival drew attention. Outsiders sometimes use slurs like “gray skins,” “redskins,” or “slos pot” (specific to orcs, roughly equivalent to a real-world slur) for Freewood’s residents.
