Echo

A hound and beast companion of K’roaa’ka. Originally belonged to guards at an outpost on the edge of the Grung swamps. K’roaa’ka bonded with her from afar, but when he reached out to pet her after his exile, his poisonous skin killed her. A druid from the outpost prayed over Echo’s body and she returned to life, now immune to K’roaa’ka’s poison. Whether through druidic magic, a blessing of Amareses, or the pity of The Creator, no one knows.

Details

  • Echo was dead for hours, not minutes.
  • K’roaa’ka built a pyre/monument to see her off and sang the Grung Death Song.
  • The druid was female, could not communicate with K’roaa’ka (no shared language), and wore a symbol of antlers and a seed on her cloak. The ritual she performed was “never seen before.”
  • Echo is canonically immune to K’roaa’ka’s poison (confirmed at the table as a permanent story fact).
  • Echo has a glow about her since the resurrection (agreed upon at the table).
  • Echo goes right after K’roaa’ka in initiative order (Beast Master companion rules).
  • When Echo first saw G.L.U. at the market, she was confused, watching it, mirroring its stillness. Then she turned to K’roaa’ka after hearing him accept Dorian’s offer.
  • Senses dark magic on Weber-Hollows itself. When the party arrived, she refused to enter town and had to be loaded into the cart. She also reacted to dark magic at the pasture above town where mutilated cattle were found, and would not stay near the corpses. Notably she does not react to Flinter-Barrows, so the source is the land or another person, not him.
  • In session 2026-05-01, Echo was sent back to camp with G.L.U. when the party split at the cliff cave. The goblin Bubbles commented that Echo “smells as bad as the cave” — decay-adjacent. The party speculates her resurrection has a fungal / decay component, possibly tied to whatever hands brought her back.
