Character Hub

Quick Read

Azalea is a Feywild-born eladrin druid whose faith centers on transformation, rebirth, and the rhythm of the seasons. She is still one of the least-settled party members, which makes her one of the most flexible story anchors in the campaign.

Background

Azalea Fern was born into an Eladrin family in the Feywild, growing up in a tree village where homes were built into and among the branches. Life was simple. Follow the seasons and the rest figures itself out. The upbringing was easy, unhurried, and shaped entirely by the natural rhythm of the world around her.

Open Questions

Still unresolved

  • Why did she leave the Feywild?
  • Is the bear truly the form that defines her, or just the first one?
  • How does she react to Echo’s return, G.L.U.’s unnatural presence, and the party’s clashing gods?
  • Is she a stabilizing force, an outsider observer, or a catalyst for change?

Faith, The Eladrin Cycle

Azalea follows the Herd of Amareses, but a specific Eladrin interpretation of it. Where most Amareses followers on the material plane focus on harvest and farming, the Eladrin subclass puts a larger emphasis on:

  • The cycle of rebirth — life will return as the grass regrows. Death is not an ending, it’s a turn of the wheel.
  • Prayer and meditation — balance is essential. Stillness is as important as action.
  • The afterlife and transformation — the reason many Eladrin can transform into animals in their current life. Upon death, an Eladrin is reborn as the animal they transformed into most during their lifetime.

Which animal will Azalea become?

Right now she only Wild Shapes into a black bear. If she dies as things stand, she’ll be reborn as a bear. Does that feel right to her? Does she want to explore more forms to find the one that fits, or has the bear already chosen her?

What does the Eladrin subclass think about someone who never transforms?

If the form you take most is the form you become, what happens to an Eladrin who never Wild Shapes? Do they come back as themselves? As nothing? Is that feared or honored?

The Party

How do you feel about Dorian?

He builds machines and one of them acts like it’s alive. You turn into animals. Both of you blur the line between natural and constructed. Does his work feel like an echo of what you do, or is a metal thing pretending to be alive the opposite of what druidic magic is about?

How do you feel about Tharion?

A teenager who follows a god’s rules without question and has never been in a real fight. You’re fey, seasonal, and turn into bears. Does his rigid faith look fragile to you, or does his conviction have a kind of strength you respect?

How do you feel about Roland?

He also follows Amareses. Same god, different expression. His oath is about preserving light and beauty. Your faith is about the cycle, transformation, and rebirth. You’re the only two Amareses followers in the party. Does that create a bond, or does his knightly interpretation of the faith feel like a diluted version of what you grew up with?

How do you feel about K'roaa'ka?

A Grung exile with a companion that died and came back. You’re a druid who believes in the cycle of rebirth. Echo’s resurrection is either the most beautiful thing you’ve ever heard, or deeply wrong. A creature that died and returned to the same body skipped the cycle entirely. What does that mean to someone who expects to be reborn as a bear?

How do you feel about Lilith?

A human who was sold as a child and raised in a circus. She survives through stealth and theft. You grew up in a tree village where life was simple and the seasons provided everything. Your worlds could not be more different. Is there anything connecting you, or is she just someone who lives in a way you can’t relate to?

At the Table

An Eladrin who grew up in the Feywild where life was easy and the natural order was obvious. Now she’s on the material plane where people kill sacred beasts, sell their children, and argue about which god is right. The simplicity she grew up with is going to collide with the mess of mortal life.

Why did you leave the Feywild?

Life was easy there. Something made you walk away from easy. Was it curiosity, a calling, an exile, a vision, or just the feeling that the cycle needed you somewhere else?

The Seasons

Azalea changes season at the beginning of each day. Her hair color shifts with the season, and the visual appearance of her spells changes to match:

Session Canon

2026-04-25 — Weber Hollows Arrival

  • Wild Shaped into a brown bear to engage a captive bear / saber-tooth scene (“Tiger”). Negotiated non-aggression, freed the captive in exchange for info about local goblin territory.

2026-05-01 — Crypt of the Brothers

  • 4-hour trance during the long rest; woke early, joined Dorian on watch.
  • Heard the child-voice in the fog (“Braun” / “Brandon”) alongside Dorian and Roland.
  • Animals around her went savage during the fog — a chipmunk bit her. Cast Speak with Animals; the chipmunk would only say “feed.” The fog-affected animals are starving.
  • Shiloh asked to ride her bear. Azalea began transforming into a bear in front of her. Nora confirmed Amaresis followers can sometimes speak with animals “depending on where they’re from, what type of people they are, and whether they’re blessed.”
  • Crypt combat: stayed as a brown bear (claw + bite). Missed once on a nat-2-tier roll, then connected for 4+4d8 on the second guard, knocking its leg off. Took the leg in her bear mouth as a trophy.
  • Outside the cliff cave, used Speak with Animals on the male owl bear — “Take the ring and leave me be.” Owl bear’s cryptic reply: “to slumber, or to suffer.” He is mourning — likely lost his mate to the fog.
